Our Mas Band
Next Generation Mas Band was established in 2012 in Edmonton, Alberta by Yoshia, our Director of Creative Designs, and Belinda, our Director of Sponsorship & Administration. Our goal is to have fun, create lifelong memories and celebrate our Caribbean heritage. From building the costumes in our Mas Camp, to participating in the parade, we aim to bring you an authentic carnival experience.
We welcome people of all ages and ethnicities to become a Next generation reveller. Our costumes are custom-made through the volunteer work of our band members during our yearly Mas Camp. Every costume is catered to each band member's individual style. Join us to experience one of Edmonton's most colourful festivals, Cariwest.

Our
Purpose & Vision
For over a decade, Next Generation has focused on creating inclusive, culturally rooted costumes that celebrate all body shapes, identities, and backgrounds while inspiring youth to carry the art form forward.

During our Mas Camps held in our garage, we welcome neighbors and the wider community to participate and connect with Caribbean culture. We practice sustainable textile practices using reusable and recyclable materials. Over the years, hundreds of young people have been engaged in both creating and wearing their own designs.

Next Generation’s goal is to pass down opportunities to those who will continue the traditions of a dynamic art practice that originated from our sweet homelands of the Caribbean.
